I got the positive pregnancy test... When should I hire my doula?

So, you may be asking, ‘When’s the best time to hire a doula?’

Ideally, you should hire a birth doula as early as possible in your pregnancy. I can offer early support and education, in addition to continuous care and aid in the management of stress.

From the moment you hire a doula, you gain access to my expertise and resources. I call myself and so many of my colleagues a “walking birth encyclopedia” and the term couldn’t ring truer! Doulas can help you understand the birthing process, explore your options, and create a birth plan tailored to your specific preferences. Engaging the services of your doula early means you have ample time to discuss your birth plan, address any concerns, and build a strong rapport with your doula. This last piece is the utmost importance to me! I love building relationships with the clients I have the pleasure to serve!

I provide prenatal visits where I can get to know you and your partner, assess your needs, and offer personalized advice. This continuity of care ensures that when labor begins, I am already familiar with your preferences and needs, making my support during labor even more effective.

The last few weeks of pregnancy can be stressful. Having a doula lined up early means one less thing to worry about as your due date approaches. You’ll have peace of mind knowing that you have a professional support system in place.

In summary, the best time to hire a birth doula is as soon as you decide to include one in your birthing plan. This early planning allows you to benefit from their full range of support services and ensures a smoother, more supported birthing experience.

It's a good idea to hire your doula in the first trimester to ensure their availability. But, also, if you're in the 3rd trimester and wondering if it's to late, reach out! Sometimes availability pops up if someone gives birth early! And as always, happy birthing!
